Bing - the new Search Engine
Microsoft's new Search Engine, Bing, was released today, June 3, 2009. They have spent two years building Bing and are reportedly going to spend US$100 billion on promoting and marketing the search engine. Microsoft intend mounting a serious challenge to the dominant player, Google and have the financial resources to do so. So how will this affect website owners seeking to get a good ranking on this new, and potentially important search engine. There is some good news, although it is early days.
Getting a good ranking on BingSo what do you have to do to get a ranking on Microsoft's new Search Engine Bing? Nothing, it seems from my research. I checked the rankings for all three of my websites. www.website-consultant.co.nz was #1 of 46,000,000 websites. www.trout-fishing-new-zealand.com was also #1 and that was interesting as it had slipped recently to #2 in Google. www.babyboomersguide.co.nz was #4 which is the same ranking as on Google - see detailed search at bottom of page. I have not submitted my website to Bing and I could not find a way of doing so. One assumes that they were using information from the Google or Yahoo (Slurp) robots/spiders. Until recently, those are the only two search engines that send robots to inspect websites so it would seem they were taking search information from one of those sources. However lately I have noticed a new MSN robot/spider regularly trawling my pages. So Bing is now taking its own information from those MSN robots and ranking websites in a similar fashion to Google and Yahoo. At this stage, it would seem that to get a high ranking on Bing, you don't need to do anything different to what you are doing now. But, if you don't have a good ranking on the Search Engines, maybe it is time to give me a call or drop me an email. All Results1-10 of 2,560,000 resultsGeneration Y Expert
